Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy is considered to be very safe for dogs with injury, disc disease, or any other underlying conditions. At Pine Bluff Animal Hospital, our very own Dr. Kathryne Hall has been certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulation since 2016, and is passionate about giving pets who suffer from mobility issues a second chance.
VSMT is a supplemental healing treatment option and is very beneficial for a variety of conditions and pets. Often, pets who seek Veterinary Spinal Manipulation Therapy are working animals, athletic animals, competition dogs, and animals suffering from injuries or arthritis. VSMT can even benefit animals with other symptoms including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), asthma, urinary incontinence, allergies, lick granulomas and more. Pets at high risk for mobility issues (such as dachshunds, or bulldog type breeds) can also benefit from regular adjustments in order to maintain mobility and reduce the risk of injury.
During your pet’s first VSMT appointment, Dr. Hall will conduct a physical exam and palpate to identify any hypermobile joints mostly along the spine and vertebral column. Based on the exam, palpation and pet’s health history, she will determine what joints need to be adjusted. For maintenance, pets typically need adjustments every one to four months, but may be as often as weekly in some cases.
Pet parents will typically notice improvement after just one adjustment. In certain cases, conditions such as neoplasia, seizure disorders, or extremely debilitated animals may need to be gradually adjusted.
