Pine Bluff Animal Hospital

Veterinary Pet Surgery

At Pine Bluff Animal Hospital, we perform general and specialized surgical procedures. Our trained veterinarians and technicians closely monitor anesthesia and cardiovascular functioning at all times—from pre-surgical procedure until your pet is alert in recovery. To further enhance safety, we perform an exam and pre-surgical bloodwork to determine what is best for your pet.

Spay/Neuter Procedure

Spay-neuter is a minor and safe procedure that has enormous benefits. Each animal is an individual and requires a unique, clinical decision. Factors such as age, size, breed, and lifestyle are considered.

Deciding to spay or neuter your pet actually promotes longevity. In addition, you will experience less challenging and troublesome behaviors associated with sexual instinct, unwanted pregnancy, and heat periods. At Pine Bluff Animal Hospital, our veterinarians are highly trained to perform this procedure ensuring your pet is safe and comfortable from start to finish.

Orthopedic Surgery

We are highly experienced in both congenital and acquired conditions affecting the bones and joints. Using advanced bone plating, pinning, and fixation techniques, we are trained to provide your pet with relief. We are prepared to perform orthopedic surgeries involving fractures or dislocations, laceration repair, luxating patellas, and cruciate ligament tears. We will discuss all surgical and treatment options with you so you can make the best decision for your pet.

Common symptoms of bone or joint conditions: lethargy, lameness, withdrawal, reluctance to jump down or climb short distances, irritability, and aggression. At times, no symptoms may be present besides a change in your pet’s personality.

Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Oral surgery may be required if your pet has been diagnosed with dental disease and alternative treatments have proven ineffective. Oral surgery provides your pet with great relief from the pain of dental disease. We perform common procedures such as broken teeth, root canals, and extractions, as well as major oral surgery such as jaw fractures and oral tumors.

Soft-Tissue Surgery

Soft tissue surgery involves most procedures that fall outside of orthopedic surgery, or procedures involving the bones and joints. For instance, cardiovascular, hepatic, gastrointestinal, urogenital, reconstructive, and oncological procedures.

If you observe the following symptoms, call or visit us right away!

  • Abnormal lumps and bumps
  • Vomiting
  • Weight loss
  • Trouble urinating
  • Painful ears
  • Shaking the head

We commonly perform:

  • Mass Removal

  • Urinary Tract Surgery- Removal of bladder stones and infections
  • Wound Reconstruction- reconstruction and treatment of trauma and lacerations

Tumor & Growth Removal

Tumors and abnormal lumps and bumps can appear at any age, however, they are especially common in senior pets. Depending upon the location of the tumor/growth, movement may be restricted. If growth continues, it will become increasingly more difficult to remove, particularly in areas such as the throat or limbs. If you discover a growth on your pet that appears to be rapidly growing or changing, please call us immediately.

Growths can either be malignant or benign. If diagnosed as malignant, we will perform surgical removal and additional treatment may be necessary. Even if the growth is benign, we recommend surgical removal to ensure your pet’s safety.

Hernia Repair

When addressed early, hernia repair is a very minor procedure. If a hernia is identified, we strongly recommend surgical treatment to prevent enlargement. Hernias commonly enlarge due to weight gain, exercise, pregnancy, or trauma. If you discover a hernia that is already enlarged, your pet needs immediate medical attention to safeguard against infection, resection of dead tissues, strangulation, and possibly death.

Foreign Body Removal

It is not uncommon for pets to eat objects that are simply not digestible—socks, balls, chew toys, hair ties, rocks, string, sticks, pantyhose, and underwear. The size of your pet and foreign object largely determines the chances for a safe passing. Some objects may pass through the gastrointestinal tract fairly easily, however, many foreign objects become lodged along the GI tract and can lead to serious, life-threatening issues. Common signs of a GI tract obstruction include: loss of appetite, dehydration, vomiting, inactivity, painful abdomen, weakness, abnormal stools (diarrhea, constipation, blood, odd color), and pale gums.

Do not hesitate to call us if you believe your pet has consumed a foreign object. When you arrive at Pine Bluff, we will take x-rays to locate and identify the blockage and then determine treatment. More times than not, surgery is required for your pet’s safety. We can also attempt to induce vomiting.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is highly beneficial in the treatment of skin conditions, arthritis, soft-tissue surgery, post-surgical pain, mouth and ear infections, and an array of other conditions. This advanced technique is completely safe, pain-free, and requires no anesthesia! Effects are produced by using specific wavelengths of light to promote faster healing, less pain and swelling, and increased circulation.

Laser therapy is powerful in the treatment of:

  • Post-surgical pain
  • Joint pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Muscle strain
  • Puncture wounds
  • Post-traumatic injury
  • Neck and back pain
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Burns
  • Chronic wounds
  • Rehabilitation
  • Post-orthopedic surgical recovery
